Riverwatch Alert

Riverwatchers,

Welcome to fall, it looks like this weekend we are going get the feel of fall. I have had enough of the hot humid weather. This note is to inform everyone that we are holding a special board meeting to do the following:

  • Review the proposed budget for 2020
  • Review the current Declarations and By-Laws

Over the last several years I have spoken to many of you about our current Declarations and By-Laws. Now it’s time for all of us to review the Declarations and By-Laws and make revisions that we all agree will benefit our neighborhood going forward. Foremost authorities, our own Tom and Chantal Walsh, have agreed to participate and help guide us in the meeting. All I ask is that you review the current Declarations and By-Laws. Then please forward me your thoughts, questions, and recommendations before the meeting and bring a copy of your notes to the meeting.

Our meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30th from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Piankatank Community League building, the same place we hold the board meeting in the winter. This is important to all of us and everyone’s input is welcome!

Hope to hear from you and see you there,

Mike AtLee
Charlie Patullo
Travis Hurand

Riverwatch Update

Riverwatchers,

I don’t know about how you feel, but this summer seemed to fly by, even with the heat and humidity. I had a couple of things I wanted to share with you.

Cathy Putnick has been our treasurer for the last 2 1/2 years and has done an outstanding job working with our management company keeping the financials up to date and on target. Recently, Cathy and Mike sold their property and she is resigning from the board. Travis Hurand will be filling in for her on the board until our annual meeting in March. Personally, Cathy has been a delight to work with and has always served Riverwatch above and beyond what was asked of her. As most of you know, Cathy and her husband Mike have relocated to Richmond and we all want to wish them all the best in their next adventure in life. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that you have done.

We would like to welcome Travis to the board, effectively immediately and have all the confidence in him serving the community as our interumn treasurer.

We are implementing a “Block Captain” program. We are looking for a Captain for South Shore, Riverwatch Drive, East-West Pkwy, Coves Point and BaySide Drive. Each block captain will work with the Architectural Review Committee, headed by Nancy AtLee. Nancy will in turn work with Community Properties, our management company to address any concerns. If you are interested, please let Mike AtLee or Nancy Atlee know as soon as possible. Our goal is to help neighbors understand the by-laws of Riverwatch in a friendly and professional manner, thereby maintaining the look and feel of Riverwatch to meet our mission, which is to grow the equity in each of our properties.

We are fast approaching capacity in the storage yard. Please position your boat or other vehicles in a manner to maximize the space. Also, all vehicles in the storage yard must be kept up, inspected and insured. Due to our growth as a neighborhood, we can’t allow the space to be used for junk vehicles. Also, not crab pots, etc should be stored there. If you see anything out of order, please let Bill Zeller know immediately.

This fall we are going to establish a committee to review the Declarations and By-Laws. Tom Walsh has studied the declarations and by-laws and has offered to participate on the committee along with the board. Anyone else that would like to participate, please let any board member know and once we get a date set up, we’ll let everyone know. Everyone is invited to participate. Just a reminder, all of us are responsible for knowing our declarations and by-laws. If you have questions, please ask any board member or Beth Pryor at Community Properties for clarification before you take action.

For those of you that like the Nature Trail, we are trying to get, from East West Communities, the plat that shows where the access paths are in each cul de sac. We don’t want to clear them in the wrong area and be on someone’s property. Charlie Patullo is the lead on this project. We hope to get this done this winter season.

Over the last several years, we have come a long way to getting Riverwatch updated with landscaping, refurbishing the dock, painting the Pavilion and resurfacing the parking lot. Now we will concentrate building a good maintenance program to keep everything looking good.

I would like to recognize Charlie and Anne Patullo for their outstanding contribution to building Riverwatch into a community. The Friday night happy hours, opening an closing summer season parties, Tuesday and Thursday evening walks have been outstanding. I feel through their efforts we are truly becoming not just a beautiful neighborhood, but building a sense of community going forward, thanks Charlie and Anne. Stay tuned for winter activities. We all have an equal stake in making Riverwatch a premier place to live in Gloucester. Please let anyone on the board know if you have any ideas or suggestions to keep the momentum going.

Enjoy the fall,

Your Board,
Mike AtLee – President
Charlie Patullo – Vice President
Travis Hurand- Treasurer
Bill Zeller- Secretary
Walter Johnson – Member at Large

Riverwatch Alert

Riverwatchers,

As you know, our recent 5K is to support the Va Special Olympics and we combine it with a local group called the ice -aholics that do a polar plunge each February in Va Beach, as well as, a number of fundraising activities throughout the year. Last year the ice-aholics along with the contribution from our race donated $90,000 to the charity.
The next opportunity for all of us to participate is coming up July 11th, this Thursday, at My Pie next to Walmart. If you haven’t been there, the pizza is delicious and very reasonable, they even have craft beer. Stop by and have dinner this Thursday, between 6:00and 8:00 and get a pizza, My Pie will donate 10% of your bill to the Ice-aholics.

You have to eat, thanks

Riverwatch Alert

Riverwatchers,

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer, particularly if you like August heat. Between the pool and river, we have plenty of places to cool off.
I wanted to alert you to the following:

  • Charlie Patullo is managing the pool and dock project and is doing a great job for our community. If you want to reserve the pavilion for a private party, please let Julie Hall at Community Properties know and copy in Charlie.
  • A big thank you to Anne Patullo, who accepted the leadership position for the Social Committee. I think all that attended the opening season party will confirm how much fun it was and what a great job Anne did, thank Anne.
  • Also, we have had better attendance to the Friday night Happy Hours than ever before. If you haven’t attended one, please try and come out, it’s a great way to enjoy the end of the work week and kick off the weekend with some fun, 5:30, each Friday evening.
  • Please keep in mind, we have the pool maintenance company come to clean the pool, tables, and facilities 3 times a week, but on the other days, things can get messy due to wind and weather. It’s all of our responsibility to keep the restrooms clean in addition to the outside help.
  • The dock project is going well, still to go is the following; power washing and staining the entire dock, water, and electricity run down to the end of the dock, ladders placed at both ends of the end of the dock, lighting at the end of the dock and a life ring with rope placed at the end of the dock. Also, we are having the wall switches for the new fans in the pavilion placed on the wall outside the kitchen, so everyone has access to them and a shower in the pool area so people can shower off before and after they use the poll.
  • We need everyone to make sure the gate to the pool is always closed and locked. We recently had a member walk by and send me a note telling me that the gate was open, the answer is close it.
  • The slips are for boat usage if you have crab pots in any slips please remove them to the end of the dock or place them out in the water. A resident almost got his prop caught in the crab pot lines.
  • For those of you that helped, contributed and supported the recent charity 5K, thank you, it was a very successful event.
  • Please review your by-laws and call anyone on the board or Beth Pryor at Community Properties if you have any questions. It’s all of our responsibility to follow the by-laws we signed up for when we joined the association.
  • The board would like to thank Danny Hunley for his participation in the Architectural Review Committee, (ARC) over the past 2 years. His contribution has been invaluable, thanks, Danny. We now have a couple of opening on the ARC, if interested, please let me know. Currently, Nancy AtLee is charing the committee and would like to have a couple of others to join her.
  • If you haven’t signed in to our website www.riverwatchhomeowners.org please do so, directories, announcements, activities, financials are all there. I realize some of you use facebook, but as a board, we don’t use it, so you may miss something.
  • Our next board of directors meeting is on July 20th at the Pavilion from 10:00 to 12:00. If you can’t attend and have input or questions, please respond to this email and we’ll include them at the meeting. We encourage you to attend, we all have an equal stake in Riverwatch.

Hope to see you on the 20th,

Your Board,
Mike AtLee – President
Charlie Patullo – Vice President
Cathy Putnick – Treasurer
Bill Zeller- Secretary
Walter Johnson – Member at Large
